Registered General Nurse
Summary of Principal Responsibilities
1.1 To assist in the development of Primary Nursing and maintain standards of nursing care.
1.2 To provide clinical nursing as required within the Nursing Home.
1.3 To give support to service users and relatives.
1.4 To give guidance and support to other nursing staff.
1.5 To guide and support ancillary workers.
2.1 To implement agreed policies in the Nursing Home so maintaining a high standard of Nursing care.
2.2 Ensure confidentiality of client care.
2.3 Keep abreast of clinical developments.
2.4 Maintain a personal professional portfolio.
2.5 Ensure that NMC Registration is current.
2.6 Have regard for the NMC Code of Professional Conduct, for Nurses, Midwives and Health visitors.
2.7 Actively participate in the trial and evaluation of new ideas and methods of the Nursing Home for the improvement of the service provided.
2.8 Administer prescribed medication according to the policy and procedure of the Nursing Home monitoring and reporting its effectiveness.
2.9 Participate in meetings with members of the Nursing team.
3.1 Work within the tea supporting junior colleagues in the delivery of nursing care.
3.2 Assess care needs and develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care and ensure planned/safe discharges.
3.3 Maintain adequate records.
3.4 Ensure effective communication with service users and their relatives and other members of the health care team.
4.1 Assisting in the development of senior care assistants, enabling them to develop skills in the assessing of individual residents, the planning and evaluation of their care needs.
4.2 Participate in the induction of new staff.
4.3 Ensure the efficient use of resources.
4.4 Demonstrate procedures to qualified and unqualified staff.
4.5 Help meet the educational needs of learners.
4.6 Ensure as far as it is reasonable, the health, safety and welfare of staff, service users and visitors.
4.7 Participate in programmes of instruction/caring for residents and relatives in activities of living and nursing care.
5.1 Recognise the signs of work related stress in others and encourage actions for relief and support.
5.2 To follow the agreed policies and procedure of the nursing home with regard to sickness, absence, grievance and disciplinary procedures.
5.3 To report to the Clinical lead/ Home manager.
5.4 To participate in nursing home meetings.
5.5 To assist in maintaining close working relationships with all members of staff within the home.
6.1 Communicate and cooperate with other groups, e.g. professional health care workers, to ensure the organisation of total resident care.
6.2 To take action required for the maintenance of equipment.
