Les choose a career in care indirectly. He was seen by a relative of the company he now works for caring for his mother who had dementia. They told him that he would be ideal to work in care and to give it a go.
The person spoke to the management about Les and they then contacted him asking to see his CV and then invited him to an interview. Les' work to date had been in food services and retail so he had no previous experience in working in care. Les started off as a Support Worker and then progressed to become deputy manager of two houses and then eventually registered manager.
Les finds his role exceedingly rewarding in so many different ways and seeing the progression in the service users makes him know his job is worthwhile. To be a part of someone’s life, to influence and help in so many different ways, that’s what makes Les proud to care.
Les would definitely recommend a career in care and the reason is very simple - it’s so rewarding! It’s probably the most rewarding position Les has had in his entire working career.
