Naomi's Story

Naomi started her working life as a waitress, progressing in to management before moving into a role in recruitment. Naomi decided that she wanted to get out of an office and do something different. She started working in a hospital as a health care assistant, and once she’d had her children she decided she wanted to do something where she could build up a relationship with people, rather than see them come and go. From working in the hospital Naomi had gathered some transferable skills and was used to caring for people who were in beds, like the people she now cares for at home.

Naomi's role as a CAREgiver at Homes Instead Senior Care is rewarding, because she knows her clients so well. She gets a warm welcome and a smile when she see’s them, which makes her feel valued. The relationship she has with her clients is quite special and that’s what she enjoys the most.  Naomi says she would encourage others to “go for it if you have a keen interest in care and caring for people; it is a rewarding job”.

Caring for someone day to day can made up of numerous activities such as helping them to get dressed, making breakfast, going out for a walk, or for a coffee, and spending time with them. Sometimes it can be difficult emotionally as you build a relationship with the clients over time. Naomi treats each individual with respect, as if they are a family member and becomes a companion to that person even helping when a partner passes. The care she provides progresses over time and all visits are an hour minimum, which allows Naomi to spend quality time with her clients in their own environment.

In the future Naomi would like to become more involved in the Care Sector maybe helping others to become better Carers. There are always opportunities for progression and when Naomi first started with Home Instead the company were very accommodating with the hours she was able to work. The job satisfaction that Naomi gets is the most important thing. Naomi has never been happier in a job and cannot put a price on the relationships she has built. Naomi knows that her clients look forward to seeing her, and appreciates all that she does, and that’s what makes Naomi Proud to Care.
