Outreach Opportunities

One of the priorities for Proud to Care in year three, was to build on the public engagement work from year two and get members of the public into the social care workforce.

Proud to Care have worked collaboratively with key partners such as Job Centre Plus, Gloucestershire College and The National Careers Service Adviza to implement various projects which aim to:

  • Raise the profile of adult social care
  • Provide an insight into adult social care values based recruitment
  • Improve individual employability skills
  • Introduce members of the public to care employers

  • Encourage those involved to apply for roles now!

** Coronavirus Update**

The team are working with the Job Centre and Adviza to review virtual platforms to host the below events. We will release further details shortly and encourage you to get involved!

Take a look through the information below and see why these programmes are a fantastic opportunity for your organisation.

The Mentoring Circles are aimed at unemployed individuals who would like to learn more about the care sector, and gain relevant employability skills. The programme comprises 4 x 2 hour sessions where care employers will act as mentors/Ambassadors of the sector.

Each session will focus on a different topic, details below:

Day 1 – Building peer support and awareness of the sector.

This is an opportunity to share experiences and build rapport with individuals, whilst also highlighting why you chose to work in care and why you love it!

Day 2 – CV and application sharing.

This is aimed at care providers talking through their recruitment process and discussing what they are looking for in potential candidates. This is a real opportunity to showcase values based recruitment practices and highlight your organisation.

Day 3 – Interview skills and practice.

This involves Ambassadors carrying out interviews, allowing candidates to develop their interview skills & experience of interviews and begin their journey in joining the sector. It is also an opportunity to engage with a new recruitment pool of individuals.

Day 4 – Goal Setting and more about the care sector

This session follows on from the interview session by considering their individual feedback and creating an action planl to help them achieve their goals and get into the care sector. Care employers are also encouraged to talk more about those they support and their organisational values

We have run several Mentoring Circle programmes so far with amazing success. Many individuals have grown in confidence and now work in the adult social care sector. Care employers previously involved have also given fantastic feedback about the programme. Please see the below:

"I really enjoyed working with potential candidates and supporting them to be able to get into the care industry"

"If I was in this position I would love to received this kind of support. It's also a great way of promoting the company"

"A great opportunity for employers to see employment from another perspective and reflect on own ways of interviewing"

"Networking and meeting other providers was fantastic"

The academy is aimed at job seekers or those earning under £16,0001 p/a, aged 19years+, to learn more about the care sector and obtain multiple accredited qualifications along the way. These include:

Level 1 Award in Personal Development

Level 1 Award in Employability Skills

Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid

Preparing to work in Adult Social Care qualification

Level 1 in Customer Service

We are also looking to include a Moving and Handling course as well as a Safeguarding Adults Level 2 so delegates will be fully prepared for a job in Adult Social Care by the end of their course!

The Academy is a great opportunity to meet a new pool of potential recruits who are keen in the sector and who will have already completed some mandatory elements of your inductions. It’s also a great way to promote your own organisation and highlight the amazing work you do, as well as the wider adult social care sector. During the last cohort employers progressed all of the participants to the next stage in the recruitment process and found their involvement in the Sector Based Work Academy worthwhile.

We are therefore looking for care providers to be involved with the scheme and be able to offer a guaranteed interview to the participants for a current vacancy.

Ideally we are also looking for care providers to host some kind of experience of work to give the individuals a real flavour of what its like to work in the sector. Those who were involved in our previous academy were able to take a group of the participants on a tour of their organisation and talk with them about what its like to work for them and what roles they have available. This gave the individuals a great insight into the sector!

Adviza have hosted various employment and careers events within the County. The aim of the events are to guide individuals to sources of employability support, and to learn about the wealth and breadth of employment opportunities available in the County. These are great opportunities for care employers to showcase their organisations and encourage individuals to enter into the adult social care sector.

Dates TBC.

Please note that the team can also provide a written statement of your involvement in our outreach programmes that you can use as evidence for CQC.
