Apprenticeships

An apprenticeship is a real job that combines practical training carried out in the workplace with study. There are currently over 200 apprenticeship standards at multiple levels approved for delivery in a range of careers.

Apprentices:

  • Are open to anyone above the age of 16
  • Are paid the national minimum wage for an apprentice for the first 12 months and then NMW for the remainder of their apprenticeship
  • Are entitled to sick pay and holiday pay
  • Don’t pay for their training
  • Learn in the workplace whilst contributing to the workforce

Apprenticeships:

  • Offer a great way for employers to welcome people to their workforce and for individuals to kick start their career
  • Take between one and six years to complete
  • Range from intermediate (GCSE equivalent) level to Degree level
  • Provide a nationally recognised qualification
  • Help to retain and up skill current members of staff
