The Apprenticeship Levy Transfer
What is a levy transfer?
Apprenticeships can be funded through a levy-paying employer transferring up to 50% of their unused Apprenticeship Levy funds to another employer. This enables larger organisations to support workforce development across other businesses and organisations by funding apprenticeship training.
Levy transfer funding covers 100% of the apprenticeship training and assessment costs, up to the maximum funding band for the apprenticeship standard. It does not cover the apprentice's salary or any additional employment costs.
Transferred funds are available for the full duration of the apprenticeship. If an apprentice withdraws from their programme for any reason, the receiving organisation must notify the levy-paying employer providing the funding.
How to view available transfers
You can view available levy transfer opportunities through the Apprenticeship Service Pledge page. Employers offering levy transfers may choose to prioritise applications based on specific criteria, such as:
- Location
- Sector
- Apprenticeship type
- Apprenticeship level
Applications are not restricted to organisations that meet all advertised criteria. You are encouraged to apply for any pledge that may be suitable for your apprenticeship needs.
