MSOICU and The Clewer Initiative

The Modern Slavery and Organised Immigration Crime Unit (MSOICU) in partnership with The Clewer Initiative have developed a co-produced modern slavery awareness raising resource focused on how to spot and report possible exploitation in the care sector. The resource is free to access and is primarily aimed at raising awareness to those working in the care sector or commissioning care.

The resource has been piloted in the Southwest region to both domiciliary and residential care homes, and to both care workers and management staff. After using the resource, care workers have fed back that they felt more confident in their understanding of modern slavery and in their knowledge of identifying and reporting incidences of modern slavery.

Resource structure and access

The Modern Slavery in Care Sector Training resource includes a slide pack, flyers and further resources document. It can be delivered as a ‘train the trainer’ session and is accompanied by facilitator notes.

The resource files are available to download from the MSOICU website here: Modern Slavery in Care Sector Training - NPCC Modern Slavery & Organised Immigration Crime Programme (npcc-msoicu.co.uk)

The resource is split into 2 parts:

  • Part 1 – a general overview of what modern slavery is and the different types of exploitation that can exist;
  • Part 2 – focuses on specific scenarios within the care sector that workers could observe or experience themselves.
