Positive Behavioural Support (PBS) Service
The Positive Behavioural Support (PBS) Service at Gloucestershire County Council offer free, tiered PBS training which is bookable via the LearnPro Community platform.
The focus of the training is on preventing behaviour that challenges by creating more appropriate environments and behaviour change strategies. The training is geared towards supporting individuals with learning disability, autism, acquired brain injury and/or dementia given this is where the evidence-base for PBS lies. Tier one training will need to be completed before moving onto tier two and three.
Tier one training has a primary focus on prevention. It looks at the PBS model and creating capable environments.
Target audience: available to all support staff, but bookings must include a manager and/or senior staff member in attendance.
Tier two training is a one-day course which focuses on how to complete functional assessments and the development of subsequent specific function-based strategies.
Target Audience: multi-agency staff who are responsible for analysing ABC’s and developing strategies to support.
Tier three is a half-day course which focuses on training staff to teach alternative skills to behaviours that challenge to the individuals they support, as well as coaching staff in implementing PBS approaches.
Target Audience: multi-agency senior staff, clinicians and managers who are responsible for supporting staff to implement PBS plans.
If the PBS Support Service are already directly involved with a care provider, the team can also provide bespoke training around the needs of specific service users on their caseload. Please note that this would require a referral to the PBS Support Service via adult social care.
