Sunflowers Suicide Support

Sunflowers Suicide Support is a registered charity whose mission is to reduce the number of people in Gloucestershire who take their own lives and be a provision of support for those bereaved through suicide.

Sunflowers provide paid-for training in suicide intervention, grief and suicide bereavement to empower our community with knowledge and skills. Training offers include the following:

  • Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) (developed by Living works) – this  is a two-day, in-person workshop that equips learners with the knowledge and skills to intervene and offer support to individuals in crisis. A venue (with two rooms) will need to be provided by the purchaser of the training.

  • SafeTALK (developed by Livingworks) – this is a half-day, in-person training in suicide alertness/awareness. It helps learners recognise a person with thoughts of suicide and connect them with resources who can help them in choosing to live. A training room is available for bookings of less than 14 attendees, otherwise a venue will need to be provided by the purchaser of the training.

  • Suicide First Aid USI (developed by the Training Centre for Suicide Prevention Education and Training) – this one-day programme, which can be delivered online or in-person, provides learners with the foundational knowledge and practical skills needed to effectively intervene in situations where someone may be contemplating suicide. For in-person training, a training room is available for bookings of less than 14 attendees, otherwise a venue will need to be provided by the purchaser of the training.

  • Suicide First Aid LITE (developed by The Training Centre for Suicide Prevention Education and Training) – this half-day short programme, which can be delivered online or in-person, provides learners with the foundational knowledge needed to effectively intervene in situations where someone may be contemplating suicide. For in-person training, a training room is available for bookings of less than 14 attendees, otherwise a venue will need to be provided by the purchaser of the training.

  • Community courses – Sunflowers offer subsidised training courses to the local community in Gloucestershire throughout the year. Currently, they run one ASIST and two safeTALK community courses each year – dates for 2025 will be available on the website from January 2025. Only two persons from the same organisation are permitted on each community course to allow a fair opportunity for all organisations to attend, and booking is on a first come basis.

  • Bespoke training packages – Sunflowers offer flexible, bespoke training packages designed to provide individuals, organisations, and communities with the knowledge and skills they need to recognise the signs of suicide, intervene effectively, and promote mental health and wellbeing. Training packages can be customised to address specific concerns and challenges relevant to your context.
