Wellbeing A-Z

5 pillars of wellbeing image - connect, keep learning, be active, give, take notice

In care work, supporting others starts with supporting ourselves. A focus on wellbeing helps create a healthier, happier workplace, improves staff retention, and enhances the quality of care.

The Five Ways to Wellbeing

Developed by the New Economics Foundation and widely adopted by the NHS, the Five Ways to Wellbeing offer a simple, evidence-based framework to support mental health:

  1. Connect – Strong relationships are key to wellbeing. Encourage team bonding, peer support, and time to talk — not just about work, but about life.
  2. Be Active – Encourage movement to boost energy and mood
  3. Take Notice – Practice mindfulness and celebrate small wins
  4. Keep Learning – Offer opportunities for growth and development
  5. Give – Foster kindness, gratitude, and recognition

We know that staff ensure that those they support receive the best care - but who looks after them?

Proud to Care want to help!

Below is our wellbeing A-Z guide that signposts paid carers and other staff to sources of support that can help build resilience and look after your mental health and wellbeing.

This page is designed for those working in the Adult Social Care sector in Gloucestershire including those working in care homes, domiciliary care and supported living organisations.

We hope you enjoy exploring the pages below, looking at the resources and watching the videos. We have mostly referenced NHS and Government websites, charities, the BBC, and The Wellbeing Line, giving a wide range of local and national information.

Please do contact us at ptc@gloucestershire.gov.uk with anything you'd like us to add, or to let us know if the pages have been helpful and you've used them. We'd love to hear how they have been of benefit to you, and any outcomes of using them, that we could share with other care workers/providers.

Please do also follow us on Facebook and Instagram where we share our new/updated pages each month.
